Do You Walk Your Aussie? Australian Shepherd Needs Exercise

Do you own an Aussie?  Australian Shepherd dogs need frequent exercises and one good form of exercise is by taking your dog for a walk.  Walking your dog once a day can be a good way to exercise your pet.

Dogs need exercise just like humans.  This helps to keep them healthy and avoid making them bored.  Boredom is one factor that may provoke your dog to do naughty things like biting and chewing your furniture, digging your garden soil and destroying all your plants.  It may even bark endlessly just to get your attention.

If you walk your dog daily, it will get tired and will likely take a rest.  Dogs, big or small, need to have a daily walk.  Aussies are hyperactive dogs, thus it needs to do a lot of exercises and walking.

Taking your dogs for a walk will also help in teaching your dog to socialize.  As you walk your dog around your neighborhood, your dog becomes oriented with the people in your neighborhood and other dogs in the area.  Exposing them to strangers is a vital part in training your dog.

When walking your dog, you must consider the size of your dog in determining how far the distance you should take it for a walk.  Small dogs should not walk that far as compared to big dogs.  A dog’s age should also be considered.  Older dogs have less energy as compared to younger dogs.  You may also consider bringing along water for both you and your dog to drink.  Always take a look at your dog and never stress it.  The moment you see its tongue hanging out, and trying to catch up its breath, you may consider taking a rest first.

Have a specific time each day to take your dog for a walk.  As a responsible pet owner, make sure that your pet does not pooh just anywhere as you walk it.  You may bring a newspaper or plastic bag to pick up your dogs pooh, should it decide to do it during your walk.

The most important thing that you must bring along while walking is a dog leash for your Aussie.  Australian Shepherd may intimidate other people who are afraid of dogs and having a leash can assure them you are in control of your dog.
