Australian Shepherd Training – Need To Know Facts

Similar to how various characters of people should be developed, dogs also need to be trained at a very young age.  A puppy is of course much easier to train as compared to an adult dog.  Kids tend to misbehave as they grow older if they are not well disciplined during their toddler years.  Seemingly, the same thing is true with an Australian Shepherd.  Training needs to be done early, to teach them not to pee just anywhere around the house, destroy house furniture, and believe it or not, act like a spoiled brat.

Before you even start to attempt training your dog, you need to be aware of some important facts:

  1. Never scold or punish your Aussie if it does not obey you.  You are only making it hard to get the dog trained.
  2. Australian Shepherds are not recommended for the inexperienced dog owner, because of its very demanding traits.  Novice dog owners may have real difficulty in trying to train them.
  3. Start training at a young age and do not expect to be able to teach a dog all the tricks in one session.  Slowly yet consistently give training, advancing on the skills that you will teach your dog as it grows.
  4. Not all dogs are the same, so do not expect to have two dogs of the same breed to undergo training and learn various tricks on equal footing.  One of them will be definitely more skilled than the other.

If you are planning to have an Australian Shepherd, training is one thing that must not be neglected as this dog can be considered as amongst the most intelligent and highly agile among the various dog breeds.
